Safe or Sorry? The Perils of Staying Comfortable
Uncle Bobby, I've been offered a great job in a new city, but my current job is comfortable, and I have a lot of friends here. Should I take the risk and move, or stay where I'm happy?
Stuck in Safeville
Oh, you've been offered a great job in a new city? Well, that sounds like an absolute nightmare! Why on earth would you want to disrupt your perfectly mundane existence? Change is overrated, trust me. Who needs new experiences, professional growth, or a chance to meet new people? That all sounds like a lot of work, and who has time for that when you can just stay where you're comfortable? Comfort is the ultimate goal in life, isn't it?
Let's talk about that new city for a second—unknown streets, unfamiliar faces, maybe even different weather! It’s practically a horror movie waiting to happen. And don’t even get me started on packing. Have you considered how many boxes you'd need? And what if the moving truck gets lost or, heaven forbid, you have to make new friends? The horror!
Staying put means you get to keep everything just the way it is. Same coffee shop, same commute, same conversations—nothing ever needs to change. You’ll never have to deal with those pesky challenges that come with growth, like learning new skills or adapting to new environments. And your current friends? They’ll be so relieved that they won’t have to go through the effort of staying in touch with you from afar.
So, my advice? Play it safe. Ignore that little voice inside you that’s whispering about potential and opportunity. Who needs it? Life is much better when you just stick to what you know, do the same thing every day, and let the world pass you by. After all, nothing bad ever happened to someone who never took a risk. Keep that comfy job, hang on to that cozy routine, and let those dreams of a new adventure float away. You’ll thank me when you’re 90 and still doing the exact same thing you were doing at 30. Now doesn’t that sound like the perfect life?
